Sunday Run

I'm still trying out the nike+ kit so I haven't calibrated it yet. So I didn't actually do 11.58mi. It was closer to 9.4mi., but I like the way it graphs the speed over distance. Seeing that can help me learn where I might need to push a little harder.

Pooh!

Here I'm trying out my new umbrella. You can shoot through it, or bounce off it. In this photo I'm shooting through it. A 28mm zoom setting on the flash seems to just about fill up the whole umbrella as shown below. I took this photo with the umbrella very close to the subject, and you can see the smooth transition from highlight to shadow that the large apparent light source gives.

Roast Beast

Sugar Cookie

Here's a closeup of sprinkles on a decorated sugar cookie. I took this photo late on Christmas eve. I think it looks like an electron microscope image of bacteria—E. Coli maybe...

Christmas Tree

We put the rest of the decorations on the tree a few days ago (instead of just lights). A small aperture (f/32) makes small points of light look like stars.

Snow Dog

Leaping through the snow! I cropped this one and adjusted the tone curve a little, to reveal a little more texture in the snow. Helpful tip: overexpose snow. If there's anything in your camera that says "EV +/-", set that baby to at least +2/3. Play around with it, for some subjects you could probably get away with +2. (remember to set it back to normal after!) The more snow in the frame, the more you should bump up the exposure, but I wouldn't go much higher than +2. If you're not sure, chimp the histogram.

Night Ice

While the snow flurries were falling in NH; MA must have been getting freezing rain, because when I got back from my trip, everything seemed to be covered with a shimmering layer of ice.

Crazy Squirrel

Here's a brown squirrel screaming what I can only assume are a long string of squirrel obscenities. I took this photo in New Hampshire, near a bird feeder.
